and northern latitude situation. seattle and portland seeing some rain, snow at the higher elevations. if anything is a saving grace, it's a little cooler this go-around, so some of the moisture getting locked up in higher elevations in the form of snow. most of that is well north of san francisco and napa valley. this will sink further south, we'll get another piece of energy later on today that will spin up across the bay area and intensify the rainfall. that's what we will be watching closely. our computer models highlight that. one pulse to the north. another one fills in further to the south. it shouldn't be nearly what we saw last week. the ground is saturated. rivers are swollen. it won't take much to get more in the way of flooding. once we get past that, we are looking at a fairly dry scenario going over the next few days. today is the day. then tomorrow we'll hopefully be breathing a sigh of relief. >>> this morning intense fighting in syria outside the city of aleppo. rebel fighters trapped hundreds of government soldiers inside a military base and say they are giving them

. fortunately we have relatively quiet weather through parts of california and portions of seattle. showers across the portions of the pacific northwest. as we head into tomorrow and wednesday we have a new storm system that will be arriving producing a lot of heavy rain, three to six inches. the ground is saturated from the last series of storm systems. this could pose big issues across the areas already hit very hard with all this rain. look at the future radar as we head into tuesday and wednesday more rain. basically the northern parts of the rockies we have snowfall. we'll see snowfall across portions of the west coast but even into the northern rockies. dealing with more moisture across portions of west coast even though we dealt with a number of storm systems. jon, very quickly another big story how incredibly warm it has been across the center of the country. 70 degrees for high temperatures in kansas city and 80 in the city of dallas. jon: wow. >> possibly record-setting temperatures. jon: december surprise. maria molina thank you. >> thanks. jenna: you might expect this next story
for recreational use. cnn's miguel marquez is joining us from see yat -- seattle. still some roadblocks, but what's the latest? >> reporter: some roadblocks indeed. you can have pot right now, but you can't go out and buy it. you still have to go to the black market. but in a year's time if everything goes the way it's supposed to, washington state will be a haven for pot. in the war on drugs, the government surrenders to marijuana users here in washington state. up to an ounce now legal for anyone over 21. >> we got that weed growing. we ain't worried about no police. we're out here living like tupac, baby. all eyes on the city cause we got it going on. >> reporter: this is the moment when marijuana became legal to possess at least under one ounce here in washington state. several dozen people, perhaps 100 people have showed up here at the space needle to smoke up and celebrate. including this guy. >> america, freedom! >> reporter: rick steves of tv travel fame co-sponsored pot initiative here saying it's about decriminalizing marijuana and freeing up government to focus on more important things
oregon and also up in the seattle and the coast of washington state. now tomorrow we are actually going to see even heavier rain start to move in. we have already had reports of about 8 to 10 inches of rainfall already from the past few storms we've already seen. but we've also gotten reports of wind gusts up to 60 to more than 80-mile-per-hour. and we're going to see more of the same if not a little more intense as we go into sunday morning. additional rainfall totals on top of the 8 to 10 inches on the ground could be an additional 5 to 6, 7 inches of rainfall out of what we'll see tomorrow morning. we have the series of storms moving into the west coast. then it's a totally different story right in the middle of the country. we're also talking about record-break heat today. down into dallas and also into san antonio where temperatures should get into the upper 70s and lower 80s. that's about 20 degrees warmer than average for this first day of december. the only cool spot really is in the northeast where temperatures today will only be in the 40s and 50s. we should tap out closer to

time. rains in the same spots it's been raining for days, like ten days. raining in parts of seattle down to portland. this is light rain at best. it gets worse than this. and it's going to be one mess for just the next day after day after day as we get one storm after another. here's the story now for today. this morning, it was dry. tonight, still dry. tomorrow morning, done. raining by 9:00 in the morning. northern california, rains all day and into wednesday. dries out on friday. let me zoom it out for you. we have a storm for tuesday. we have a storm for thursday. and another one back here for next saturday. that's four storms in ten days in a place that's already flooding. wolf? >> so what i hear you saying is that folks in northern california's wine country, they are by no means out of the woods? >> well, this would be a whole lot worse. had this backed up -- let's say this was august or september and this storm system came through, 2012 would have been wrecked. there would no wine at all. the grapes would have been popping, way too much rain late in the season makes wine thin
seattle there are concerns about more mudslides. meteorologist karen maginnis joins us live from atlanta with the latest. they cannot get a break. >> they really can't, and for some folks, this is not coming as good news because it looks like that pineapple express, that moisture coming from deep within the pacific, that's going to be shut off, but we've still got the moisture coming in from the gulf of alaska and that's going to lower the snow levels across the cascades and the olympics down to around 2,000 feet or so. it has been hovering around 3,000 or 4,000 feet. we've got additional snowfall here but also the rain moves in. take a look at video that we have from our cnn affiliate, komo, and a house has been steadily sliding down a hill. this is in the vicinity of everette, washington, and they say that this has been going on for quite some time. so every time it rains, not just this one house, but a number of homes in this particular neighborhood, they say every time it rains it just kind of undermines the footings on the homes there and they tend to slip down even more. we've seen
. then seattle should top out at 44. in the detroit area today, temperatures in the lower 40s. the reason i mentioned detroit is they want their bacon bailout. >> gretchen: they do. they want somebody to bring home the bacon and specifically, it's president obama. they say that overwhelmingly in the county where detroit is, i believe it's wayne county, michigan, more than 70% of the people voted for president obama. >> brian: michigan was closing in those last few days. >> gretchen: 73% in wayne county voted for president obama. and council woman joanne watson has her own analysis of that and has to do with bringing home some bacon. >> after the election of jimmy carter, the honorable coleman alexander young went to washington, d.c he came back home with some bacon. that's what you do. that's what you do. this is our people in an recovery whelming way supported the reelection of this president and we ought to be quid pro quo and you exercise leadership on that. of course, not just that, but why not? >> steve: i love bacon, but a lot of people hate bailouts, especially bacon bailouts. stuart
